FAQs

Can I claim my Osteopathic sessions under my health benefits?

Osteopathic treatment fees are eligible for coverage under many extended health benefit plans. Florence’s professional designation is D.O.M.P. (Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice) from the Canadian College of Osteopathy. Florence is also a member of the OAO (Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners).

These are the credentials required for coverage by most plans in Ontario.

What should I wear to my appointment?

It is recommended that you wear comfortable, thin, fitted clothing to your appointment. This allows the practitioner to observe your posture and alignment and it permits more movement when testing the mobility of the bones and joints. Most people will wear leggings, a fitted tank top, sports bra or gym shorts for treatment.

What is the difference between an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner and a Chiropractor or Physiotherapist?

In Ontario, Osteopathy is a manual therapy, like Chiropractic care, massage and Physiotherapy. However, Osteopathy is its own distinct therapy that focuses on the body as a whole. The treatment is often gentle and involves the manipulation of the tissues, which includes, the muscle, bone, connective tissue, fascia, and viscera, rather than adjustments.

When should I bring my baby in?

The earlier the better! Babies are resilient and responsive to osteopathic treatment. In short, you can bring them as soon after birth as possible or as soon as you notice signs or symptoms. For tongue-tied babies, it is recommended to come before and after a tongue-tie release or revision. Ideally 3-4 days before the revision and 1-2 days afterwards.
